Services
Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.
Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. Our doctors are trained in a wide variety of surgeries, both soft-tissue and orthopedic. In addition, we have a surgeon specialist, that regularly performs advanced surgeries on-site that would normally require referral to the university. We are equipped with a state of the art CO2 surgical laser.
Video Otoscopy/Rhinoscopy- We have a Med RX video scope which allows us to perform a variety of ear surgeries, and nasal surgeries, and can even by used to perform minimally invasive liver biopsies.
Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.
Patient Warming: In addition to heated surgery table tops, we have several Bair Hugger systems that surround your pet in warm air, and can be used to warm IV fluids as well. These are the finest patient warming systems available today.
Internal medicine consults: We offer advanced diagnostic capabilities including ultrasounds, biopsies, electrocardiograms, and certain endoscopic procedures. For even more complicated cases, we offer outside referral to a large range of board-certified specialists that can offer services such as MRI and CAT scan, etc.
Ophthamology: We can perform most available diagnostic tests for eyes. We have a Tono-pen digital tonometer, the best instrument available to us to check eye pressure (glaucoma screening). We perform a wide range of eye surgeries including Cherry Eye repair, entropian repair, treatment for abberant eye lashes, eyelid tumor removal, and procedures for treatment of corneal ulcers.
Radiology Services: Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. Our new X-ray machine is more powerful than typical veterinary units, which will allow us to get the best quality radiographs on the biggest dogs.
Ultrasonography: We have an ultrasound machine which we can use for many diagnostic procedures on organs such as the liver, kidneys, heart, spleen and urinary bladder. We can ultrasound pregnant animals as well (we can even turn on the doppler and let you hear the little heartbeats!).
Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists. Your pet's ECG can be transmitted directly to a cardiologist that will review it and consult with us about the case within one hour.
Dentistry: Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, digital dental X-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery. We have two complete dental units (just like the ones your dentist uses), including fiber-optics. We perform dental procedures on approximately 400 patients per year.
Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.
Infectious Disease Isolation: As part of our building improvements, Bay Animal Hospital will be one of the few veterinary hospitals in the state with a true infectious disease isolation ward. This ward is equipped with a negative pressure ventilation system to make sure that air from the isolation ward is not mixed with the air in the rest of the hospital. Other features of this ward include a decontamination room, closed circuit television cameras to monitor these patients from our treatment ward, and a pass through box directly into our laundry room for any neccessary linens. The isolation ward is climate controlled winter and summer.
Permanent identification: We offer Homeagain microchip identification. Microchips can be implanted with a simple injection and provide valuable protection if your pet is ever lost. This procedure is relatively inexpensive and as simple as an injection. Microchips can be read by scanners anywhere in the United States, Canada or Mexico.
Pet Tag Engraving: Bay Animal Hospital has a pet tag engraving machine and a variety of colors and shapes of tags to chose from. All pets should have some form of identification!
Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We can mail prescriptions to you, if you are unable to pick them up. We also carry a full line of prescription diets. Our preventative products are priced comparable to internet pharmacies and unlike internet purchased products, are fully guaranteed by the manufacturer when used as directed. Ask us for details.
Individualized Flea Control Programs: We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet. Unfortunately, with warmer winters, we now see significant numbers of fleas year-round in Michigan.
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.
Boarding: We provide pet boarding as a service to our clients. All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. Our boarding kennels are all climate controlled. Our new facilities include sky lights in the dog boarding kennel area, a fenced exercise yard and cat condos (fun cages with platforms and port holes). Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Saturday.
Emergency Care: Please call our main telephone number for instructions for after-hour emergencies.
Presentations: Bay Animal Hospital can provide presentations of a variety of subjects for your school or civic group. We are also happy to have school groups or scout groups of any age tour the animal hospital. Topics we have covered in the past include veterinary medicine as a career, pet first aid, general pet care, and science fair presentations. In addition we can set up a booth at a fair or festival with pet care information, give aways, etc. Call us if you have any ideas.
Housecalls: We offer housecalls on a scheduled basis. We can also transport animals back to the hospital for procedures if neccessary. Call us for an appointment.
At Home Euthanasia: When it comes time to say goodbye, we can come to your house if you prefer. Call us for more information.
